In 2018, the world’s biggest meat alternative production facility opened in the heart of the North East at Quorn Foods’ Belasis site in Billingham, in the North East. The factory expansion of 9,500m2 doubles production capacity of Quorn’s core products, adding approximately 20,000 tonnes per annum. It is part of a £150m investment by Quorn Foods, reflecting an increase in flexitarian and vegan diets, and the fact that the UK is the most advanced meat-free market in the world.
Laker-vent are proud to be associated with WSP and Marlow Foods and have continued our relationship on this site for 10 years.
Glen Slaymaker, industry director at WSP, which has offices in Middlesbrough and Newcastle, said the business was delighted to be supporting Quorn’s growth. He said: “Securing this project continues our fantastic working relationship with (Quorn trademark holder) Marlow Foods, which now spans almost an entire decade. “It also demonstrates the great work carried out by our existing project team and selected partners including Laker-Vent the main M&P contractor at the Belasis site in Billingham.”
The project involved some 8km of pipework of an average bore of 150nb, with a peak labour force of some 60 tradesmen over a twelve-month period.
